Overview

The course aims to provide you with the knowledge and essential skills to enable you to competently carry out carpentry and joinery work.

Outcomes
On completion of this course you will be able to:
  • Undertake safe working practices and understand the relevant health and safety legislation and key responsibilities for employers
  • Interpret and understand information, confidently estimate the type and quantity of resources required using drawings and specifications, and effectively communicate with the construction team
  • Understand the building methods and construction technology and how sustainability issues are addressed within the construction industry
  • Produce basic woodworking joints
  • Carry out first fix flooring and roofing work, in accordance with the current health and safety and Building Regulations
  • Carry out first fix carpentry and joinery work on frames, partitions and stairs in accordance with the current health and safety and Building Regulations
  • Carry out second fix carpentry and joinery work in accordance with the current health and safety and Building Regulations
  • Distinguish and identify maintenance work, the associated components and materials, and its uses in carpentry
  • Understand the relevant law and good practice relating to circular saw usage
